On May 28th, 2008 Alison Davis' water broke at 28 1/2 weeks pregnant. After 17 days on complete bedrest at West Boca Medical Center Joshua was born approximately 9 weeks premature. Joshua spent the next 30 days in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). His first days were spent on a ventilator as he was unable to breathe properly on his own. He also developed jaundice, anemia, a cyst on his brain, and fluid built in his kidneys. He recieved a blood transfusion to correct the anemia and spent several days "under the lights" for his jaundice. The cyst is still present and may or may not require surgery for removal. He is still under the care of a kidney specialist for his kidneys and this may also require surgery to correct. After coming home Joshua did well and seemed to be OK outside of the conditions listed above. As he got older we started to notice he was not developing as he should and just thought he would "catch up" from his prematurity soon. As time went on Joshua showed signs of being blind, was unable to hold his head up, and could not grab a toy. He went to a neurologist and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. After a EEG (brain scan) and a MRI of the brain, it was discovered that Joshua has severe brain damage to the left side and white matter of the brain affecting his motor skills, sight, and more. We immedialtely started threrapies and anti seizure medications to improve his condition. Currently at 13 months old, Joshua is making great advances with his therapy but is still unable to support his own body. He currently recieves 5 therapy sessions weekly and we hope to increase this soon.
Joshua is not eating very well due to extreme reflux and may need a Gastronomy Tube installed in his stomach to recieve proper nutrition.

Joshua was admitted to the hospital on Monday 8/24. On Wednesday 8/26 he had surgery to install the G-Tube. The procedure went well but Joshua had violent reactions to the anesthesia. He also developed pancreatitus and Ileus and is expected to remain in the hospital through next week. Please continue to keep Joshua in your prayers, we thank you very much!!

Joshua is still in the hospital and has now been in for 22 days. He developed two bacterial infections in his blood as well as viral pneumonia. As these things attacked his body, he had a Septic Shock Sunday morning and nearly lost his life. After a hard battle and many prayers Joshua is now in the Pediatric ICU in stable condition doing well. He has full time oxygen and is being treated with 2 antibiotics. When Joshua fully recovers from this setback we will begin ramping up his feeding process once again trying to get him the amount of nutrition needed to be discharged. Thank you for your fervent prayer and please continue.
